In 1924, Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb aimed to execute the “perfect crime.” Believing in their own cunning, the teens meticulously planned their flawless scheme over several months. In May of that year, Leopold and Loeb kidnapped and murdered Bobby Franks.

Initially, everything proceeded as planned. Leopold and Loeb disposed of Franks’ body, sent a ransom note, and confidently watched the investigation, certain they would never be caught. However, the police discovered Leopold’s eyeglasses near the boy’s remains.

Within ten days, the teens confessed to everything. Their “trial of the century” commenced in July, and with the renowned attorney Clarence Darrow representing them, they avoided the death penalty and were instead sentenced to life in prison.

Their once-promising futures quickly disintegrated. Richard Loeb was killed by a fellow inmate 12 years later, while Nathan Leopold spent 34 years in prison before being released on parole in 1958.
